GRAIN LOVES RAIN
This film was shot on an Iphone by Dasha Tsapenko and Nazar Gresko of PROSO Atelier when they were in lockdown on Inis Oírr in March 2020 during the Covid-19 crisis.
Grain Loves Rain is a wearable piece of nature for a rainy climate. It is a fragile ecosystem on the go, which requires care and love. You need to feed it, and it eats rain. Winners of the Weatherproof Me! International Design Competition, the work was originally commissioned as a participatory arts project. Groups in Athenry and Inis Oírr were assisting PROSO Atelier in sowing and growing the wearable fields of leafy greens for filmed performances in St Patrick’s Day Parades on March 17 2020.
The project suddenly had to change mid-way, when travel restrictions resulted in Dasha and Nazar being isolated on Inis Oírr island, separated from their collaborators. This solo performance is their response.
PROSO is an Netherlands- based architecture, art and design atelier. Conceived as a nursery for a critically driven design approach, it has a strong focus on social, ecological and urban integration. We aim to plant a seed that will result in a healthy and happy urban environment. It was established in 2019 by Dasha Tsapenko and Nazar Gresko, who bring their diverse educational and professional background to their design process.
