Achoimre | Summary
Weatherproof Me! is a challenge to design the interface between the body and Galway’s weather.
We are looking for original designs, which we will put into use during Galway’s year as European Capital of Culture 2020, (during which an estimated 2.5 million people will visit the city and county).
The designs will be part of the Hope it Rains | Soineann nó Doineann programme, a flagship project of Galway 2020. Turning our bad weather to good use, HOPE IT RAINS | SOINEANN NÓ DOINEANN aims to make Galway the place to be because it rains and blows! Using the principles of Play-Exchange-Change, we want to effect a cultural change in our relationship with weather, making it a source of creativity and communality, and Galway’s people and places more weather and climate resilient.
Weatherproof Me! re-imagines the relationship between the body and weather in Galway, and the interaction between the body and the weather.
We are looking for designs that transform our behaviour in the wind, the rain and the dark - Designs that challenge our attitudes and behaviour towards climate change and water management - Designs that transform the everyday weather into performance.
We welcome designs that are imaginative, innovative, provocative, playful, or theatrical. Interdisciplinary collaborations and experimentation are welcome, as are uses of wearable technology or traditional crafts. There are no design or fabrication limitations or stipulations.
Deadline: 24.00 GMT, 10 August, 2019
