UMBRELLA ORPHANAGE TAKES FLIGHT | UMBRELLA ORPHANAGE AR EITILT

Join us at Athenry MAD Festival to launch the giant Umbrella Orphanage butterfly kite. Created by Jeni Roddy from some of the 670 broken brollies rescued by Galwegians after the winter storms, this huge 4 metre barrilete realises Galway’s umbrellas’ natural inclination to take flight. This is a Galway guardian, a spirit of Galway come in joy and celebration. In its final incarnation, the butterfly spreads its wings to create a rain canopy and outdoor work space for Gliondar Athenry Community Arts Group.

Bí linn ag Féile Athenry MAD chun eitleog ollmhór an Umbrella Orphanage a sheoladh. Tá an eitleog 4m in airde agus i bhfoirm féileacáin. Chruthaigh Jeni Roddy é as cuid de na 670 scáthanna báistí briste a bhailigh muintir na Gaillimhe i ndiaidh stoirmeacha an gheimhridh. Is cosúil go bhfuil dúil in eitilt ag scáthanna báistí na Gaillimhe. Taréis a eitilte, leathnaíonn an feileacán a sciatháin mar cheannbhrat báistí agus spás oibre faoin spéir don ghrúpa ealaíne, Gliondar Athenry Community Arts Group.
